    Helpful Websites for New Parents

As a new parent, you are presented with a whole range of new joys and experiences that you may have anticipated, as well as a lot of things that you did not anticipate. This is where the information on the internet can be really helpful or needlessly terrifying, or sometimes just plain wrong. To be on the safe side, the websites you refer to should be legitimate publications and not just one person from Idaho’s (or from anywhere) opinion. Here are a few Aussie sites that are both well-known and generally well-vetted.

    Raising Children Network - raisingchildren.net.au

This is the gold star of the parenting website, funded by the Australian government it offers a wealth of information on parenting, child development, and health. It provides resources for parents from pregnancy through to advice on bringing up teenagers. This is generally the starting point for any parenting advice.

    Kidspot- kidspot.com.au

Kidspot is an Australian parenting website featuring articles, forums and resources. It allows parents to connect and chat directly about a wide range of topics, including pregnancy, baby care, and parenting advice. It offers a vast amount of content and has articles covering anything parenting-related you can think of. It is also great for finding other parents who are struggling with the same issues or have overcome something your family is going through.

    The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne - https://www.rch.org.au/kidsinfo/

This hub provides evidence-based information for parents on children's health and development. It covers a range of topics from newborn care to adolescence. This website has hundreds of fact sheets covering medical conditions and concerns, they are easily searchable and very comprehensive.

Pregnancy, Birth, and Baby - pregnancybirthbaby.org.au

Sometimes reading information does not cover what you are looking for, or maybe you just want to talk to someone directly, The Pregnancy, Birth & Baby site offers a helpline and a video chat option for more direct contact. This is an Australian government website providing information and support for parents from pregnancy through to the early years of parenting, it has additional information specific to the Australian Government regarding childcare rebates and My Health Record updates.

    My Child - mychild.gov.au

Run by the Australian Government, My Child provides specific information on childcare and early childhood education. It includes a childcare finder tool and other helpful resources for early learning.

    Australian Breastfeeding Association - https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/

Breastfeeding can be extremely difficult for new parents and the Australian Breastfeeding Association's website offers valuable information, resources, and support all centred around breastfeeding support, education and advocacy.

As with all advice and information, it comes down to what your family is comfortable with, however, these resources have helped thousands of parents on their journey and set many anxious minds at ease with their experience and support.
