    Top 5 Toys for Babies

When it comes to buying toys for your baby the options are endless. I mean endless. There are so many different rattles and teething rings and soft toys, there are toys for entertainment, toys for development, and sensory toys. It is all a bit much and it is impossible to know which toy will be ignored by your baby completely or become their year-long favourite. I have trailed through the masses and here are a few tried and true, classic baby toys that are must-haves for 0 – 3-year-olds.

Sophie the Giraffe: I think most children have had a Sophie at some point. This classic teething toy is perfect for little ones to chew on. Developed in France in 1961, Sophie is still made using 14 manual processes and using 100% natural rubber. Perfect size for chubby little baby hands and easy to clean with no little dirt-collecting nooks or crannies. High quality and incredibly durable, they are pretty much impossible to damage. Which is really what you want from anything you are giving to a toddler.

Playgro Activity Gym: This activity gym will entertain your little one for hours. Lay them under the arch and they will swat at the plush elephant and chew on the textured teether, and discover their reflection in the little mirror. This activity gym is designed to engage all your baby's senses and help them develop their gross motor skills. It also folds flat for easy storage, which makes for one less tripping hazard.

Lamaze Freddie the Firefly: Your baby will love this colourful toy, it features lots of textures and a cute little squeaker to keep them entertained and engaged. Designed to awaken all of the senses babies particularly love feeling the crinkly wings and the crackling sounds they make. Perfect for the crossbar of the pram to keep them happy while you grab a quick latte and a chat (with another adult).

Fisher-Price Rock-a-Stack: It seems too simple to stay entertaining for long but these colourful rings that stack in order of size (or however your child wants to stack them) never cease to delight. Helping your baby develop hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. The joy on their face, when they stack it correctly alone, is worth the purchase price.

Bright Starts Sit & See Safari Floor Mirror: Much like many adults children love to see their reflection. This large baby-safe mirror set on a soft triangle base is made to help strengthen your baby's core and neck muscles by encouraging tummy time. Watching your baby laugh at itself laughing is a beautiful thing to watch.

That is the top 5, all tested on actual babies and toddlers all triumphant in their entertaining capacity. They are also all pretty reasonably priced which is something else to remember. More expensive doesn’t necessarily mean your child will like it more. If you have ever watched a child under 3 unwrap a gift you will know they are just as likely to ignore it and play with the wrapping paper, they just like what they like. I hope this list helps, of course, always supervise your child during playtime and have fun out there!
